Answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about the Queen Mother Memorial project can be found below.

 


Who was eligible to submit an expression of interest?

Any designer who able to fulfil the requirements of the project was invited to submit an expression of interest.

Will the design be very traditional?

The design will not necessarily be traditional, but the existing context of the memorial to King George VI will need to be considered.

Where will the memorial be?

The memorial will be on the site of the existing memorial King George VI, on The Mall, adjacent to Carlton House Terrace.

Why was this site chosen?

It is appropriate to link a memorial to The Queen Mother with a memorial to her husband, King George VI.

When will the memorial be finished?

The memorial is scheduled for completion in 2008.

How much will it all cost?

The project will cost a maximum of £2 million, to include all fees, VAT and associated costs.

Is the tax payer meeting the costs of this project?

No. The cost will be met by the sale of £5 coins celebrating the 80th birthday of The Queen in 2006.

Will The Queen unveil the statue?

Details of any unveiling ceremony would be released nearer the time.
