The life of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (1900-2002) spanned the whole of the twentieth century. As the wife of King George VI, mother of the present Queen, and a public figure serving the nation, The Queen Mother was widely admired and loved for her resilience, sense of duty and gracefulness throughout every decade.
To commemorate a remarkable individual, the Royal Household and the Government have announced the construction of a permanent national memorial to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, to be sited off The Mall in London.
Designers, architects and artists worldwide were invited to submit expressions of interest in the project, and the final memorial scheme has been chosen from a shortlist of five designers.
The project is funded by the sale of a coin marking the 80th birthday of The Queen in 2006.
